President's Message December 14, 2009
Greetings and Happy Chanukah to all,
The Executive Committee is pleased to report that the coming
year shall be the most exciting and significant year for our
organization since our inception less than three years ago.
Our first planned event will take place on April
15,2010 when we present our first Annual Lifetime Achievement
Award to Jonathan Lippman, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals.
We are currently in the process of finalizing location for this
special event. We intend to invite the entire Westchester
judiciary, elected dignitaries and members of the bar beyond
our organization. We are so fortunate that Judge Lippman is
available and pleased to accept this honor. We thank our board
member, Rita Gilbert, for having a sculptor create this award
especially for our organization. It is most fitting and quite
beautiful. We anticipate a large turnout for the event and ask
you to please mark your calendar now.
We had earlier in the year discussed a "trip to Israel." On
June 13 through June 24, 2010 we have the opportunity to join
the Brandeis Law Society of Philadelphia on a fabulous trip
which, according to their itinerary, offers 6-12 CLE credits.
Judge Lazarus, President of the Philadelphia Brandeis Law
Society assures me that there is a process by which we in NY
also would receive CLE credits.
We need about 20 members to join their group –
cost $2219 per person double occupancy (air and land $3429). We
will attach itinerary to website and send to all members.
Please contact me – my cell phone is (914)671-3772 or email me
at
judgecohen2009@gmail.com re: questions or interest in the
trip.
There will be additional information provided if
enough interest is generated as well as an evening with the
Haifa and Tel Aviv Bar Associations and time spent at Kibbutz
Ein Hashofet (the first American kibbutz in Israel, and named
after our namesake, Justice Brandeis).
That takes us through June. We look forward to
your continued interest, participation, and membership. Please
pass on this website information to friends/colleagues.
As an aside, I have been assigned as of January
2010 in my new capacity as Supreme Court Justice to serve in
Orange County for an extended time. Monthly meetings will
continue to take place in White Plains. I will provide new
telephone number and contact information for all members within
the next few weeks.
Happy Chanukah and may we all hope and pray for
world peace as we enter the second decade of the 21st
Century.
Jeffrey Cohen, President
