The
Justice Brandeis Westchester Law Society is an association of
attorneys who are interested in maintaining ties with the Jewish
people. The Society was created to provide a social vehicle to
network, encourage civility and build camaraderie among attorneys
while celebrating their Jewish heritage and Jewish values in the
law. The Society's members seek to combine aspects of their lives
unique to being both attorneys and Jews. The Society, in furtherance
of these purposes, shall serve as a forum for the advocation and
education of issues and topics of mutual interest and concern
to its members.

President's
Message July 10, 2011
Greetings and Shalom,
Over the course of this last year our organization has held
numerous events, expanded our membership and we are now an
organization which represents the Jewish legal community in all
five counties of the 9th J.D. Our Executive Committee likewise
now reflects membership from three of the five counties. Our name
has recently changed to the Justice Brandeis Law Society and we
shall soon be updating this website to make it more user
friendly and interactive.
During the last year we have held several interesting free
lectures for our members involving Judaism, the law and other
current topics, provided a CLE free to members on e-Filing, held a summer BBQ at the home of Faith Miller and our
Administrative Judge and this past June 12, 2011 we held our
second Annual Gala event with well over 200 in attendance at a
Champagne Brunch held at the Rye Town Hilton. Judge Albert
Rosenblatt received our Second Lifetime Achievemnt Award and our
Keynote Speaker was U.S.Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. You may find
photos from the event by clicking here [photos
of 2011 Gala Reception]. Both speakers spoke eloquently on
current topics near and dear to us as attorneys, judges and
Jews.
Earlier this year we had the honor of hosting Supreme Court
Justice Gabriel Bach, Ret. of the Israel Supreme Court at the
Judicial Institute. He was a lead prosecutor in the Adolph
Eichmann trial in 1961 and the topic was "Ushering in the 50th
Anniversary of the Eichmann Trial." His insights into that event
and subsequent experiences he had as Israel's States Attorney
and then Supreme Court Justice was simply spell binding to all
in attendance. We also hosted Holocaust Remembrance events in
the Rockland and Orange Courthouses last year.
After this summer we shall hold an open meeting for our entire
membership and discuss ideas including establishment of a
student and young lawyers committee, a scholarship program, more
free CLE programs, and of course the annual discussion of the
"trip to Israel." Unfortunately, a planned trip this year was
postponed due to the uprising throughout the middle east and lack
of interest in current travel. NEXT YEAR IN JERUSALEM!
Have a pleasant summer and please tell your friends about our
organization. Applications for membership can be downloaded from
this site.
Shalom,
Jeff Cohen
